DOCUMENTARY-LED VIDEO PRODUCTION,
BUILT AROUND PEOPLE
A PEOPLE FIRST APPROACH
Every film starts in the same place: with people.
Whether I'm making a branded documentary, a commercial campaign or a corporate film, my process is rooted in the principles of documentary filmmaking. That means listening before filming, building trust before asking questions and creating an environment where people feel comfortable enough to be themselves.
I've found that the most compelling stories rarely come from perfectly rehearsed scripts or polished marketing messages. They come from honest conversations, unexpected moments and the details that only appear when people stop thinking about the camera. That's the approach I bring to every project.
STORY OVER VISUALS
Beautiful images matter. I care loads about cinematography, lighting and creating films that feel cinematic but visual style should never come at the expense of the story.
Whether I'm filming a founder, an artist, a customer or a community my first question is never "How should this look?" it’s always "What are we really trying to say?" Once that becomes clear, every creative decision follows from it.
I believe audiences are far more interested in being moved, entertained or informed than they are in being sold to. The strongest branded films don't feel like advertising. They feel like stories that happen to leave you with a deeper understanding of a person, an organisation or an idea.
COLLABORATION IS KEY
Every project begins with conversations. I spend time getting to know the people I'm working with, understanding what matters to them and uncovering the story they're trying to tell. Rather than arriving with every shot already planned, I treat those early conversations as the beginning of the creative process.
I think of filmmaking a little like keeping a notebook or a scrapbook. I'm constantly collecting ideas, observations, moments, images and conversations, gradually discovering the collage of the film.
That doesn't mean working without direction though, I just stay open to the unexpected and believe strongly that often the most memorable moments are the ones you didn’t plan for.
